Updating a Customer’s Credit Card
If a customer’s payment fails because their card needs to be updated, managers can send the customer a secure link to update their card details.
How it works
When a customer updates their card:
- the new card is saved to their profile in Stripe (Secure payment processor)
- the card can be used for future payment attempts
Note: Updating the card does not charge the customer. It only saves the new card for future use.
When to use this
Use this feature when:
- a payment fails because the card is no longer valid
- the customer wants to replace the card on file
- you need the customer to update their payment details before retrying a payment
- The customer has a 2nd deposit payment pending that will be charged in the future
- If the 2nd deposit payment has failed due to a card processing error
What the customer sees
The customer receives an email with a secure link to update their card details.
After they complete the update, the new card is stored and can be used the next time payment is attempted.
Important notes
- The card update step does not retry payment automatically
- A separate payment attempt is still needed after the card is updated
- The updated card is saved securely in Stripe
